Jane Breinstrup is originally from Denmark. She arrived in the French West Indies with her husband some twenty years ago. She lived in Cannes, Saint-Martin, Guadeloupe, before settling in Les Trois-Ilets in Martinique for good. Her apartment overlooks the sea, and she always keeps an eye on the horizon as she creates her calabash sculptures. Modern, colorful sculptures... with an enormous sense of humor!

And it's easy to see her fun in Jane Breinstrup's sculptures: comical situations, unlikely couples, offbeat expressions... a real cocktail of good humor and enthusiasm. Her sculptures have already made her a household name in Martinique, gracing the island's most beautiful spots.

As you'll have gathered, Jane doesn't talk much about her artistic approach. And yet, she studied Fine Arts and Art History. Yet her sculptures evoke strong reactions and emotions. And yet, there's an unmistakable quality to her work, and an underlying question: can we take everything seriously?
